The hamlet of Bwlch y Sarnau is in the parish of Abbey-Cwm-Hir in the Old Radnorshire County of Powys. Located on the Glyndwrs Way, midway between the coast and the border with England, BwlchySarnau is welcome stop for riders of the TransCambrian Mountain Bike Epic.
Situated at over 1300 feet in the Cambrian Moutains, Bwlchysarnau offers visitors stunning views spanning all seasons. People are drawn to the tranquillity and beauty of the area which is a haven for wildlife and a favourite nesting place in particular for red kites, buzzards, owls and bats. Also hikers through woodland trails may well have the delight of seeing red deer.
Bwlch Y Sarnau is 5 miles from the Gilfach nature reserve. A 400 acre traditional hill farm and SSSI (site of special interest) where otters, weasels, stoats, polecats, water voles and bats can be found.
Ten miles from the village is situated the historic landscape of the Elan Valley one of the most important sites for wildlife in Wales.
Our closes village is Rhayader (pop 2,000), eight miles distance, where your can find shops, GP and Dental surgeries. Also cafes, pubs, restaurants, galleries, leisure centre with pool and museum. The market town of Llanidloes is 9 miles away. Tesco and Aldi stores can be found at Llandrindod Wells 12 miles away (about 20 mins drive)
The nearest railway station is Pen y bont 7 miles away. Newtown station is 12 miles or 30 mins drive with fast trains to Birmingham and London.
